Wacken Open Air 2024: Heartfelt projects and inclusion rocking in front of the stage
Metal with a heart: Wacken fans give the gift of unforgettable moments
In a remarkable campaign, fans again donated a total of 30 tickets for the festival this year. These benefited both metalheads with disabilities and those who did not have the financial means for such an experience. The Wacken fans once again showed that music knows no boundaries and that everyone deserves the chance to share this unique festival experience on the Holy Ground.
80 Buddies for an unforgettable Wacken experience
They traveled together from all over Germany. Eighty so-called BUDDIES from Inklusion Muss Laut Sein accompanied fans with disabilities to the largest metal festival in northern Germany. Together they rocked the field and showed that volunteering can also be fun. Many of them have known each other for years and are always together, not only at the festival.
A dream comes true at the Wacken Open Air
The story of Stan, a metal fan with Down syndrome, has been a highlight for us this year. For three years, he trained tirelessly for his big moment – crowdsurfing in front of the main stage at Wacken Open Air. Stan actually wanted to experience his big moment last year, but the rain and traffic chaos literally put a stop to the experience. Stan, who travels from the Netherlands every year with his parents, is a true Wacken fan and an avid concertgoer. There is no event or concert that he wouldn’t attend or has already been to, but his annual highlight is, of course, the Wacken Open Air. “It’s like coming home,” his father describes it. At the Wacken Open Air 2024, his dream finally came true. With great joy and support from his two BUDDIES Moni and Sven, he experienced his unforgettable moment. It is not the first time that Inklusion Muss Laut Sein (Inclusion Must Be Loud) has made the dream of crowdsurfing possible. In the past, it was always fans with disabilities who wanted to experience this moment, whether blind or in a wheelchair, together this is not a big problem. Stan and his family are friends of ours and inclusion means that we work together to create normality and make dreams come true.
The Wacken Open Air and its fans have once again proven that it is more than just a music festival. It is a big family that stands for inclusion, helpfulness and pure passion for heavy metal. This year’s heart projects have shown that music connects and can make dreams come true. We are already looking forward to the Wacken Open Air 2025 and would like to thank all donors for their support and the donors of the tickets, you rock tremendously.
